Music has been a major part of my life. During cross-country treks with my family, I would hear different songs along the way. When those songs are played, I am transported back to special moments of my sister and I trying to not kill each other in the back seat of our car.
Music has been there to speak the words that I have not always been able to speak, to identify the emotions that I have felt, and has been a constant backdrop to my life. There are no silent moments, even when no sound is audibly made, I always have a song in my head.
I love finding new sounds to go along with the old standards. So, I have decided as part of the “Droppings” aspect of this site, that I would add a feature that I would like to think of as my own little soundtrack. On this page I will post YouTube videos of the songs that have either special meaning, or songs that I just like.

I like this song because Billie Holiday sang it during a period when lynching in the south was common, and speaking out against it wasn’t. In fact, Billie Holiday was the first to sing it in her act, which she was advised against in the beginning. I think it’s message still resonates today and we need to be mindful of our dark history to avoid it in the future.

If you haven’t figured it out yet, I’m eclectic. Anyway, I have Petula Clark on here because I used to watch reruns of “The Ed Sullivan Show” when I was a kid and I loved this song. No insightful deep meaning stuff for this one, sorry.

Hey, it counts as a song… and one of my favorites from Sesame Street.

I would lose my woman card if I didn’t like her.

I haven’t a clue what’s being said other than the translation of the title. Knowing Icelandic would probably be helpful I suppose. Nonetheless, I like the song with its hauntingly-amazing sound.

I can’t get enough of this song!!! Unlike the title, there are plenty of folks who I’d like to forget.

Oh my D, I am so stupid, I never saw the tab before!
Strange fruit is always such a trip. Hard to believe how common that was. I love again and again, I’d heard it before, but I didn’t know who it was!
Yea, I love new music! We did the road trip thing too, in my family. Ohio to California and back every summer, no air conditioning.
We, at least, had air conditioning for our road trips…. Maryland to Wyoming. Thanks for checking out the page. As I said, I will update this often. I have purchased quite a bit of music through iTunes thanks to music you’ve had on your site, so I’d like to return the favor to others to share some of the stuff that is a part of my life, as well as newer finds! Thanks!
Ooh, I love that last one, I wish I knew what they were saying, and what a gorgeous boat!
