The Weekend Isn’t Over

Okay, so I’ve been wrapped up in coursework and World Cup action this weekend, (shout out to Paul the Octopus) but I didn’t forget my promise to post before the weekend is out.  I had read today that White House Spokesman Robert Gibbs thinks that there’s a good chance the Republicans will take back the House in the mid-term election.  I know it might sound like a shocker, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it happens.  I look back on the past two years that the Dems have had full control over Congress, as well as the White House and the only thing that’s made it all the way to the President’s desk to be signed was the Health Care Bill. That, in itself ended up being quite a bit different than the idea that many of us had when the mention of making health care available to all, insured and uninsured alike came to the table in the first place.

I realize that when President Obama was handed the keys, he was handed a big bowl of shit and was expected to turn it into a filet mignon. I have not lost sight of that.  However, I can take a look at the Legislative Branch and ask them what the hell it is that they have done that has been of great benefit to this nation.  With any luck, the repeal of DADT will be a reality very soon. That will be one thing that they’ve done right.  Now, what else have they done to improve this country? What can they stand up and say has gone well, that has brought us ahead of where we were two years ago?  Seriously, I’d like to know.  Unfortunately the Tea-Bagger movement has grown and many of the candidates that they support have won quite a few primaries throughout the country in primary elections. Btw, how many tea-baggers can even spell the word, “candidate”? Just wondering.

We need to be worried about the future of this country, because if the Dems couldn’t get very much accomplished that is advancing this nation, promoting change in a positive light, then what is in store if the Republicans take over?  Scary thought, isn’t it?

  1. It just never fails to amaze me – the GOP is responsible for keeping unemployed people from getting extended benefits, but the same people will probably blame “the economy” on the party in power. Hello? Bush II gave us two wars and $7 trillion in debt…but who’s counting? Sucks.

  2. really scary thought. The sad thing is, things would probably be so much worse had mccain won.

  3. Who is really to blame here? How about the 100′s of thousand
who showed up at all of Obamas appearances
After the election they all disappeared into the wood work.
We have many campaigns going on right now and they can’t drag their butts out of their chairs long enough to help with any of them.
Michele Bachman is a rock star in her district but there are enough votes to defeat her if people really wanted her gone.
Obama supporters have bigger numbers then the Tea Party and could be out in the streets protesting the Republican slackers..and helping to defeat nuts like her.

  4. Scarier than hell!

  5. The world is crazy. But I am glad you are still here, now that I have 90 seconds to look! Keep up the good work!
