Today’s a great day!!!! How so? Something wonderful has happened in D.C. and no, the Republicans did not have a change of heart on the health care bill. Gay couples are finally going to be able to get married and step one of the process became legal today.
By six this morning, the first gay couple was in line to apply for marriage licenses in D.C. and by the end of the day; well over 150 other couples took the same step towards equal rights. There is a three-day waiting period after applying for the licenses, so the first official gay marriage in D.C. will take place on Tuesday. Still, it is an important day as Washington, D.C. joins New Hampshire, Connecticut, Iowa, Massachusetts, and Vermont in allowing couples to marry, no matter the sexual orientation.
I know that leaves 45 states to join the ranks of allowing gay marriage… and to not have it be reversed… but it’s a step and an important one for those of us who do not have the opportunity to marry, but would like to. So many people seem to still feel threatened by the idea of gay marriage. As I have said before, if you don’t like gay marriage, don’t marry someone of the same sex. Simple as that!

I saw this right after I wrote my last post, otherwise I would have posted about it! Yippee!!! Mr. RK and I are actually taking part in a “testimony” project here in Oregon about why we think everyone should have the right to get married.
Congratulations! It’s a step in the right direction : )
So glad to hear it!!!!
Coming along slowly, remember it wasn’t that long ago when blacks and whites couldn’t marry..
