Well folks, President Obama given his first State of the Union address and I have to say that this is the first time that I’ve really looked forward to hearing the President address how our nation is doing and where we need go. I wanted to hear his take on healthcare, the economy, the state of jobs, and to see if he would address last week’s election in Mass.
President Obama did remind us that he walked into the room when the shit was already hitting the fan with the economy. This I agree with, we do need to be mindful that he inherited quite a bit. However, I’m still not a fan of him bringing on those from the private sector, who were part of the problem, into the public sector making decisions that might not necessarily be all that great. Healthcare is something that I do believe that everyone should have access to healthcare, but not through backdoor deals. As for jobs, we do need to do have incentives for businesses to stay here and promote opportunities for Americans who would otherwise be without work.
President Obama even addressed defense and security of this country. He hit key points about eventual troop withdrawal and discussed the needed improvement of the VA. He’s also discussed arms control. He also gave Iran a warning.
I have to say that my big point in the night was when he stated that he would work with Congress to repeal ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ this year. Does this mean I’ll jump back into the military? Hell no. However, to know that thousands of soldiers and sailors will be able to serve this country without having to worry about being found out, to allow those who have wanted to serve but were afraid to, that means everything to me.
I will be interested to read up on the reactions to his speech as well as reread the transcript to catch any important statements that I may have missed. The one thing that did eat at me was that the Republicans seemed to close themselves off. Were the Democrats that rude when President Bush spoke? I really don’t recall that being the case, but let me know if I’m incorrect.
By the way, when President Obama took the Supreme Court to task for their b.s. decision last year, did you notice how the camera panned to Justice Alito who mouthed the words, “that’s not true”? Jackass.

Alito is a jackass! It’s really wait and see with this president, isn’t it? Because despite good intentions, Congress is still all about back-door deals.
I thought he did a good job, and called everyone on the carpet, including the last administration and himself as well…..more like the Obama of old! It will be interesting to see how 2010 plays out….so far my IRA is taking a hit though….the wall street, big business people are at it again! Assholes……….
He is a master with words..I just wish he had a little more of LBJ’s gonads.
.He found a way to get Medicare passed even if it meant taking a few Democrats to the woodshed.
Obama is never going to get cooperation from the Republicans no matter how hard he tries.
Finally watched! I can’t believe a justice of the supreme court would react in such a rude manner. What kind of role models do we have anymore?
