I’ve noticed that the news started in on their end of year and decade wrap up at the start of this week. It has been an interesting year, especially in the world of politics. We went from having a dipshit as our fearless leader to a man who won the Nobel Peace Prize…. and he hasn’t even done much yet. That just shows you that the world doesn’t completely hate us like they did this time last year.
In addition, we were all hoping that after the election, Sarah Palin would return to Alaska, get eaten by a bear, and the Nation’s cumulative IQ would go up a couple points. No such luck, eh? Nope, instead she stepped down from being Governor, since she’s “no quitter”… her words, not mine… had someone ghostwrite a book for her, and she went on tour. Like a case of herpes, she just keeps coming back. Damn it.
South Carolina proved that when it comes to elected officials, they need a makeover. Between one Governor who had a little fling in Argentina when he said he was on the Appalachian trail, another who broke decorum and screamed “You’re a Liar” in a very bad pot/kettle move, followed by yet another jackass who said that the Health Care bill would be “Obama’s Waterloo”. Seriously, I know my sibling, who lives in that state is a liberal… but is there anyone else there who actually votes without doing an “ini mini miny moe” when selecting a candidate? It almost made Alaska not look so bad for voting Sarah Palin into office… almost.
One cannot discuss health care without mentioning Sen. Ted Kennedy, who passed away a few months ago. He championed for health care reform decades ago. President Obama championed the cause and has put full pressure to get something passed. I am on board with the idea of Universal Health Care. Yet, I disagree with what it has turned into. It is proposed that people will be punished if they don’t have health care. Granted, Federal Government will help offset the cost. However, if you can’t afford to pay your bills, or to even put food on the table, how are you going to be able to afford health care? Deals were brokered, especially with Nebraska. I understand that there is a lot of pork barreling that takes place when sponsors and co-sponsors are trying to pass Bills, but some of the concessions that have been made in order to have something by Obama’s deadline are just enough for me to say, “Not this year, folks.” Seriously, if you believe that just getting something through for now and going back to fix it later is good enough, I’ll start giving you a list of Bills that have gone through, meant to be amended later, but have yet to be revisited. I know I’m breaking with some of you on this. I agree health care for all is a good idea. However, the road to Hell is paved with good intentions and I can only hope that we do Sen. Kennedy’s vision for affordable health care some justice.
Lastly, I would be remise not to bring up my favorite new D.C. resident of the year:
I hope that this next year brings much more hope and positive change for this country. With that said, Happy New Year, folks!

Happy New Year! Loved this line: Like a case of herpes, she just keeps coming back. Damn it.
*Hopefully she’ll go into remission.*
Quite a year, eh? Hope 2010 is a great one!
Hope this is a good one for all of us!!!!!
Happy New Year!
Don’t get discouraged about the health care bill just yet ..it has to go to conference and we really don’t know what the outcome will be.
As for Alaskan Bears..they are very fussy about what they eat and would spit her out pretty dam fast..
