President Obama Wants To Talk To Your Children… Apparently Some Bigots Have a Problem With That

I figured the Birther Movement was a new low for this country and that it couldn’t get any dumber.  I was wrong.

It was announced yesterday that President Obama is going to address the children in our nation’s schools, next week, to talk about the importance of education. Well, apparently that went over like a fart in church with the stupid bigots of this country. According to a few out-to-lunch talk-show hosts, the President of the United States wants to “Indoctrinate the children into Socialism.”

Here’s the statement pulled straight from the White House Blog:

“At noon on Tuesday, September 8th the President will be welcoming America’s students back to school – after all, sometimes they need a little extra motivation after a glorious summer. The President has spoken often about the responsibility parents have for their children and their education, but in this message he’ll urge students to take personal responsibility for their own education, to set goals, and to not only stay in school but make the most of it.

To help make sure as many school districts, classrooms, and students are able to get this message we have launched a resources page where you can find out almost anything you’d want to know. There’s information on how you can watch it on TV or on the internet, classroom activities that teachers can engage their students in around the speech, even the satellite coordinates for school districts that want to access the feed.”

Yes, I see the promise of brainwashing the nation’s children into socialist behavior.  My mom is a teacher up in New England. She recounted to me about how her school district was inundated with calls from bigots who did not want their children to hear the President speak to them.  It was bad enough that the Superintendent had to put out a statement in regards to the matter reminding folks that President Obama is, indeed, the President.

I am greatly disturbed and disappointed that it has come to a point in our country where people want to keep their children from hearing the President discuss the importance of education because of their great ignorance and intolerance, because that is what this all boils down to.

Frankly, I wasn’t a fan of Reagan, or either Bush. However, when the President addressed the nation, my family stopped and listened. Granted, we would voice our opposition in discussions after, but we were respectful about it.  When President Bush addressed the nation after the brutal attacks on 9/11, we all stopped and listened. (After he finished reading one of his favorite novels… picture book… to school children)  We didn’t politicize it and say that we would turn our backs because he would push his Christian-based, right wing agenda on all of us. It was a horrible day that affected us all and we were listening to our President.  When President George H.W. Bush promoted the President’s Council on Fitness and Sports, by appointing Arnold Schwarzenegger as the chairman of the council, schools nationwide latched onto the importance of being fit. Parents didn’t call up and pull their children from gym class in order to avoid the preaching of the President.

The point is, the idea of the President speaking to the children of the United States about an issue like education should not be politicized.

Is the fact that the President is a Democrat the issue? I don’t think so. Presidents Clinton, Carter, Johnson, and Kennedy were all Democrats and they were never treated like this. Is it because President Obama is a minority?  I hate to say it, but I think that’s a huge part of the problem. I also think a contributing factor is the outright lies spewed about the intentions of the Obama Administration by those who feel as if their way of life is somehow threatened.

I had really thought that our country was turning a new leaf last November when millions of Americans voted for a man, not based on his race, but voted for a cause, for a message, for hope.  Unfortunately, those who live with blinders on are the ones showing their asses.

God forbid the President discuss the importance of a good education to our children! What’s next?  Is he going to talk about how he hopes everyone has proper health care? Oh wait, he already did that.

Oh, and for the stupid fucks calling into the schools, telling them that you don’t want your children to be “indoctrinated” into some crazy Socialist cause, you should keep something in mind: Public schools are funded by the state and federal governments. So, it’s already too late. Your children have been brainwashed.

  1. Stupid fucks is right! But remember, these people are also demanding to see his penis ;)

  2. i used to think watching the president speak was cool…..something to be respective of and in awe of. What are parents teaching their kids now?

  3. Ooh, stay in school, what a subversive, radical message! My daughter and I are conducting a brief study- we want to know which kids aren’t allowed to watch the speech and/or are kept out of school so we know who all the wing nuts are.

  4. This group of right wing terrorists will use anything to destroy this man..
    People better wake up soon.

  5. You should have the seen the overwhelming response to my Facebook status, saying pretty much the same thing you just did. The part that is amazing to me is that the right wingers who are not going to allow their children to watch him speak (or who are going to watch it at home with them, in case they have any questions) are the ones who are in church every single time the doors are open. What are they learning in these churches?

I truly think this is the first time I have felt & seen true racism & I truly hope it is the last. Although, of course, it won’t be.

  6. This could all backfire on the wing nuts, when these kids go into their rebellious years they may all become Liberal Democrats.
    Wouldn’t that be payback..

  7. BTW I just saw your message and laughed because awhile ago, a couple of coworkers (no one at work knows about the blog, obviously) found the pic online and said, “Hey, isn’t this cool?!” And I just smirked.
