Opinions Are Like Assholes… Everyone’s Got One

However, I keep seeing, hearing, and reading about the same one and it’s in regards to health care. (I bet you wondered where I was going with that for a few seconds there.)

I don’t know how many of you catch Rachel Maddow, but last night she did a segment that made me pedal even harder on the bike at the gym. (The bikes come with television… don’t judge me) She articulated thoughts that have been going through my head for a few days in regards to the same jackasses who have said that they don’t want government interfering with health care decisions… more like making the decision about the end of one’s life, are some of the same people who stuck their fucking oars in the water when, what should have been, a private matter of the end of life decision in regards to Terri Shiavo and her end of life wishes. I’ve looked to see if the video has been posted on Youtube to include it, but so far, no luck.

Something that has fallen by the wayside in much of the mainstream media is that there is nothing stated in any of the bills (which I believe is up to four versions at this point) that forces Americans to sit down with their doctors to discuss what boils down to a living will.  It’s an option that would take place about every five years.  In addition, the choices to be made are up to the patient.  The government is not going to tell you that if you end up in a horrible car accident that they will not take drastic measures.  You are the one who has to give the DNR request and you or your Power of Attorney has to make that pretty fucking clear. The whole idea of standing in front of some sort of fucking death squad to prove your worthiness to live is the biggest load of bullshit I’ve heard in quite some time.  What’s sickening are the dumb shits who believe that the actors on their favorite soaps are real, are some of the same fucks who buy into what is being promoted by jackasses like Grassfire.org, march down to the town halls (while many of the rest of us are busy with…. oh I don’t know… working for example) and end up screaming nonsensical bullshit at their Senators and Representatives and refusing to believe a little thing that I would like to call “logic.”

These are some of the same people who don’t want government involvement with their health care, yet they don’t want anyone to mess with their Medicare (which is government run). Do you know what else the government runs? Your police force comes to mind.  Oh, last time I checked, the taxpayer also pays for your local fire department. Now, I don’t know about you, but if my house is on fire, I’m not going to tell the fire brigade that I do not require their services because I don’t think that a government run organization will do me or my neighbors any good.  As for those jackasses who work on Capitol Hill, I have a little news for you; the fucking government provides your health care! If it’s so bad, drop it and go pay for it through one of those insurance companies who donate to your campaign fund.

I knew that there are some stupid fucks out there, like the ones who don’t want to allow people like me to marry someone of the same-sex because they feel that somehow their marriage is threatened by my desire to eventually get married. (To someone sane and in touch with the real world… hard to come by, believe me.)  I hate to tell you this, but I sure as shit had nothing to do with Gov. Sanford’s infidelity. My friend’s sister, who recently had a commitment ceremony with her partner, had nothing to do with Larry Craig’s little tap dance in a bathroom stall. I’m pretty damn sure that the brief period of time when California allowed gay marriage had nothing to do with Sen. David Vitter shopping outside of his marriage through an escort service.

I deal with ignorant fucks on a daily basis who don’t like my way of life, who have even spoken ill against gays, and yet they have no idea that one of those folks that they want to deny rights to is standing in front of them.  I have dealt with the class issue in high school because my daddy wasn’t rolling in money like my other classmates. While they were driving beamers, I was happy to eventually get my driver’s license. I have attended school with people who didn’t like me because my race treated theirs like shit way before I was born. (and, unfortunately, some white people still need to get over it and realize that it’s what is inside that truly matters.. well that and good hygiene.. in my book.) I have witnessed people fighting over which branch of Christianity is supposed to be right.  I watched an ignorant fuck spit on an Middle-Eastern man in the streets of Baltimore soon after 9/11. I’m pretty fucking sure the victim did not have anything to do with the events of that horrific day. My experiences are light in comparison to what many in this country have dealt with. However, I have felt great disappointment from each one. Yet the culmination of those experiences in addition to people screaming in town halls, and the ignorant fuck who carried the death wish sign in regards to our President have made me grow even more disappointed in my fellow Americans than I ever thought I could feel.

I remember hearing a sound bite of a person at one town hall saying that the government should not force him to share his money with others, as in paying taxes so that other folks can have health care.  Well you know what? I gave my life to the United States Navy for four years to protect your greedy ass, so SHUT THE FUCK UP!!!

To the ignorant fucks, I say this:

1. Think for yourself for once.

2. Before you argue a point, make sure it’s a valid one.

3. If you’re on Medicare, I’m paying for part of your health care. I didn’t ask to, however, I work, therefore I pay taxes so that services can be provided from the government such as YOUR FUCKING HEALTH CARE!

4. Get a life. Sitting at home watching Fox News all day is doing you no good. At least listen to the other side of the invalid argument. I am sure to read from both the left and the right sides of the press so that I can form my own, educated opinion. (I also read proposed Bills)

5. If you don’t want the government getting in the way of your health care,  then go obtain private health care, get really really sick, and enjoy yourself when your insurance drops you because they are losing money on your ass.  It’s happens every day. With your government-provided Medicare, you can’t get dropped (Holy shit).

6. Consider the possibility that you’re not the most important person in the world. I guarantee you that the other 6 billion people in this earth would disagree with you.

  1. Great rant! I needed to hear it, too, after the nasty gram I got from my sister after forwarding an email from the White House on Health Care. The thing to remember is that not everyone who’s against the health care bill is ignorant. My sister has a master’s degree in geophysics for goodness sakes. She went pretty rabid on me and called me basically stupid for believing anything that came out of the White House. It actually made me sick to my stomach. I should’ve known better than to send it to her.

  2. Amen, sister! You write so well.

  3. What really astounds me is how nasty people have become over this issue. What do you think is bringing this out? Their behavior is just egregious. Unfortunately, I do believe race is playing an issue here. I am pretty sure some people did not get over having an african american president.

  4. Thanks for the rant……I’m running out of them….don’t know what to say next, as I’ve never been more upset with my species (well, a few times) that they can’t get this!! It’s what they all need, and yet they are complaining?????? I just don’t get it and I’ve just about given up……..you can’t fight idiots, and you can’t fight the insurance industry……….

  5. You said it all D, today I got so mad watching Orin Hatch on ABC, I sent him and e-mail..its probably floating around in space afraid to land.
