On May 25, 1961, President John F. Kennedy gave a speech to the United States Congress in which he discussed the desire to put a man on the moon by the end of the decade. Forty years ago today, Neil Armstrong made President Kennedy’s goal a reality. He also proved that the moon was not made of cheese.
The marking of the a manned lunar landing isn’t significant just because we won the space race against the former USSR, but because we were able to do the impossible just eight years after President Kennedy first spoke of a manned mission to the moon. As we mark that day forty years later we should see it as a reminder to all of us that we should dream big dreams and strive to make them a reality. No huge goal comes without some bumps in the road. However when the goal is met, it does taste pretty sweet. As we look at the condition of our economy, our friends who are without work, and perhaps even ourselves, we need to be mindful that if we were able to put a man on the moon, we are capable of picking ourselves up, dusting ourselves off and rebuilding our lives.
We put a man on the moon. If we could do that, we can restore this country and bring back hope to Americans.

I remember it like it was yesterday…very moving. We’ve made many steps in the right direction since that step….hope we can keep it up! Thanks for reminding us that we are still capable of great things…
He also proved that the moon was not made of cheese.
*love it!*
