Frankly, I’m not sure how I feel about this. It does give some benefits to gay partners of some federal workers, but it doesn’t give all the benefits that straight couples receive. Here’s the take from last night’s Rachel Maddow Show:

It’s a start and only a start…pressure should be on to do more. Waaaaaaaaaay overdue. The thing is? Hello! What about federal employees IN THE MILITARY?!
Yeah, couldn’t believe they did this and then DADT is still an issue!!!!??????? I’m not going to knock positive movement, but……….
Here’s hoping that Congress does the right thing so that pension and health insurance benefits can be added.
It’s a start, but still a slap in the face after the Justice Dept declared the Defense of Marriage Act (What WERE you thinking Bill Clinton?) Constitutional.
I am quite disapointed in this. He should be doing so much more.
It’s a slow process, but we will get there eventually.
Maybe we just have to out live those conservative “Bleeps”
