Memorial Day: A Day to Honor the Fallen

Today isn’t just a day off for many of us.  It’s not about the sales at many department, furniture and even home improvement stores.  This day was not granted as a holiday just for the heck of it. Today is about remembering those who have died in the line of duty, dating back to the Civil War, hence why it is called Memorial Day. (Originally it was known as Decoration Day.)

This is a day when Democrats, Republicans, and Unaffiliated voters should come together to pay homage to those who have died serving this country.  This is a day for the young and the old to take time and thank those who shed their blood while doing something that they felt was necessary to protect the interests of the United States.

Memorial Day isn’t about politics.  It’s not about Gitmo or waterboarding.  Today is about honoring those who we know and don’t know who have fallen so that we may continue to enjoy the freedoms of this land.

Please, take a few moments and look at the Faces of the Fallen from Iraq and Afghanistan.  Remember, this day isn’t about you.  It’s about them.

  1. Good post D…sometimes we need a reminder! So many more people to remember this year….

  2. Thanks for the reminder. It’s easy to get caught up in the mire and forget that there are Americans dying for it…

  3. Thanks for the links; off to check them out…

  4. Thanks for this – I come from a peace-loving family of veterans, including a grandfather and great-grandfather who lied about their age so they could enlist. Much braver than me.

  5. Thanks, D!

  6. Thanks for these sites..good post.
