In a relatively short period of time, it seems as though the Arctic Sea will be free of ice in the summer. You might think that it’s not that big of a deal. However, it is. When you get overheated at night, one thing you can do is push your bed-mate out of bed to help lower the temperature. Then again, that doesn’t always work nor do all of us have bed-mates. So, what else can you do? Many times a person will stick their leg out from under the covers as a way to help cool the rest of the body down so that it doesn’t get overheated. Now, let’s say that the leg method is the only way that you can cool yourself down and you end up losing your leg. For you smart-asses, out there, let’s say you lost the other leg too so you have no legs to stick out from under the covers. Essentially, that’s what the ice does for the Earth. (Well, that and it reflects the rays of the sun.) Now, without the ice we don’t have a means to maintain a constant temperature for the Earth. Granted, folks in places like Alaska might be pleased to have warmer temperatures, but there is more to it than that. More glaciers will melt and the water level of the oceans will rise. Our crops will be affected, insects who die off due to freezing temperatures in the winter will continue to live and to breed year round. I don’t know about you, but the thought of a increased tick and flee population doesn’t sound like my idea of a good time. Hell, even the drastic change in weather can affect our health.
I am aware that we have had ice ages a few times over. However, at the rate that the ice is melting is accelerated in comparison to other ice ages. It’s not a Republican or a Democrat deal and I’m fucking tired of Global Warming as being something more of a political issue. The only politics involved are of the need for steeper regulations in the output of harmful greenhouse gasses. The regulations don’t need to just take place in the United States, but around the world. In fact, today, Secretary Clinton spoke about the need for more cooperation from the International Community in regards to protecting the North and South Poles.
We need to do more, ourselves, to combat the output of pollutants into our air. We need to be a bit more conscience of how we can do our part to not be so wasteful with our resources and to ensure that we are putting out the least amount of emissions possible. I’m not just talking about keeping our cars maintained, but being aware of the products we purchase. Changes are that the majority of what’s in your home started life out in the factory. So, when you’re doing with something, if it still has use for someone else, donate it to charity. If it has recyclable components, recycle it.
If you have an old computer or a CRT television, you can take it to a Sony Recycling Event or an Ecycle Drop Off. To find a Sony Recycling Event or an Ecycle location, click here. Above all, please consider taking the time to write your Senators and Representatives a letter with your concerns about the need for stronger environmental regulations. These people are supposed to work for us. If enough of us voice our opinions, they have to listen more than just the PACs and the Special Interest Groups.

I know, it’s bad news (environmentally speaking) this week. I watched the new Bill Nye show marathon last night, talk about having it hammered into me! My folks put solar panels on their house and bought a prius, which kind of blew my mind. I think people get it, now. I also think more will be done by this pres than any other.
I know I shouldn’t be laughing, but that headline did it for me!
Mari- Gotta love Bill Nye the Science Guy.
Riot Kitty- Sometimes there’s humor in the truth.
As I sit here on 7 April, in Florida, wearing TIGHTS under my pants because it was 44 degrees this morning, I don’t understand why we keep using the term Global Warming. It is incorrect and it gives the righties something to pounce on. Please use Global Climate Change, maybe that will help explain it to those too stupid to understand?
And thank you for those great tips on recycling!
