I just came across an article written about Socks the Former First Cat. He had passed away today at the age of twenty. Granted any feline living for twenty years is quite a long life. However, no matter how old a four-legged member of the family is, their passing is still a terrible loss. However, in the case of Socks, his death affects two families. When the Clintons left the White House, Betty Currie took Socks into her home. Mrs. Currie was the personal secretary of President Clinton and had a very close bond with Socks over the years at the White House. If you want to read more about the life of Socks, feel free to click here.
I had received my own picture and letter from Socks soon after the Clintons entered the White House. While I had written to President Clinton about scrubbers on smokestacks, Mrs. Clinton about healthcare, I had also threw caution to the wind and wrote a letter to Socks. Then again, I skipped over writing a letter to Chelsea, as I really did not want a picture of her. (Hey, I’m honest!) Anyway, I don’t know if I kept the photo and letter. However, if I do find it, I’ll be sure to post it. I mean, how many people receive pictures from the first pets? Then again, how many teenagers are crazy enough to write to an animal in the first place?
In other news, I caught a documentary about the conservative reaction to Obama that was filmed during the election by Alexandra Pelosi (She’s the daughter of Nancy Pelosi) entitled, Right America: Feeling Wronged. If you have HBO, I would highly recommend checking it out. It’s amazing to watch the unfounded worries and concerns that many conservatives had about President Obama. Her documentary is proof that people truly do need to be educated about our Constitution, our government, and about different cultures within our country. Please check it out if you can.

My cat died at twenty, and my second one is 19…so Socks was well loved and taken care of!
I saw Alexandra Pelosi on Rachel…I was very impressed with her and can’t wait to see her documentary, as hard as it will be to watch…
I remember Socks! Did you know that there was a Secret Service agent whose job was solely to protect Socks? I am not making this up! We learned this in a high school government class
Wow, I just watched the Pelosi documentary on HBO Demand
“Frightening” comes to mind.
I barely made it through the 60′s..I hope I don’t have to go through something like that again..
I was sad to hear about Socks. Very sweet post.
I saw Pelosi on CNN talking about the documentary. I wonder if those people knew they were talking to Nancy Pelosi’s daughter? LOL. I’m going to check it out.
