…and one of the worst Presidents in the history of our nation will move on to a whole other country… I feel bad for you folks in Texas. I have heard in recent days that Mr. Bush has compared himself with the likes of Abraham Lincoln. Apparently he has a very distorted image of himself.
Eight years ago, while serving my time in the Navy, I was voluntold (that’s like volunteering only being told that you’re going to volunteer to do something… it’s big in the military) to participate in the ’01 Presidential Inauguration. I was the only one in my office who had stand on the side of the road. I was picked because, prior to the election, I voiced my opinion about George Bush and lets just say that I made J. Edgar Hoover sound like a great guy in comparison. Others voiced their opinions about Al Gore in return. The election is the one time in the military when you can bitch about the next Commander-in-Chief. The moment they take office, all complaints stop, as it’s actually against military law to speak up against the President.
So, being that I shook things up in the office quite a bit (translation, I called out other people’s bullshit), I was the only one who did not vote for George Bush, and due to being the lowest ranking person in the office (yet I was still an NCO), I was “fortunate” enough to be voluntold. It also fucked up two weekends. The weekend before the Inauguration was the practice session. (I guess the Coast Guard folks who were there needed the extra practice in standing at parade rest and at attention like the real military… yes, the rest of the military picks on the Coast Guard. It’s a tradition that’s been around probably ever since the Coast Guard came to be and who am I to fuck with tradition?)
The Inauguration itself was on a weekend. I’ve written about it a little bit before, so I’m not going to bore you with the details. However, I can tell you that it was a very cold, rainy, miserable day and I froze my ass off. I should have taken the weather as a sign as to how the following eight years were going to be. I also find it interesting that next Tuesday will be cold, but is suppose to be sunny… hopefully like the next four (and if decent, eight) years that Mr. Obama is our President… the sunny part, not the cold part.
In just a bit after I post this, President Bush will make his farewell speech. (Be still my beating heart.) According to the snippets of the speech that have been released, I laughed when I read the following, “You may not agree with some tough decisions I have made, but I hope you can agree that I was willing to make the tough decisions.”
I think he has the words “tough” and “imprudent” confused with one another.
Another quote from the speech that I just loved reading was, ”There are things I would do differently if given the chance. Yet I have always acted with the best interests of our country in mind. I have followed my conscience and done what I thought was right.”
Okay, see now he has the word “conscience” confused with “Cheney.” Both words begin with the letter “C,” so I guess it’s a simple mistake, right? Speaking of “C” words, I feel compelled to share this lovely video that talks about the letter “C”:
Sorry, I just had to do it. Now, back to business…..
Mr. Bush even managed to toot his own horn about 9/11 saying that we haven’t had another terrorist attack in the past seven years. Guess what? I don’t think it would have mattered if someone else had been President when 9/11 occured. The military response in Afghanistan would have taken place. If anything, we might have stuck around instead of distracting ourselves with a completely unrelated trip to Iraq. Then, perhaps, Afghanistan wouldn’t be in the horrible shape that has reverted back to and Iraq wouldn’t have as many issues as it has now. However, we can’t turn back the hands of time to see the “what if.” Shame, isn’t it?
Lastly, was this one that just sent me to the shed to retrieve my shovel as it got very deep… ”There is legitimate debate about many of these decisions, but there can be little debate about the results.” Well, I believe we can all agree that the results were much like after a person digests his food: Crap.
I still am trying to figure out how the hell he served two terms. Was the country in a coma back in ’04? Granted, I wasn’t a huge fan of John Kerry, however no one can convince me that Mr. Kerry is worse than Bush/Cheney.
The best thing to come out of the White House in the past eight years was those stupid Barney Christmas videos… and that’s pretty damn sad.
Well, I don’t know about you, but I’m going to take it all in this weekend, knowing that change is on the horizon. As for Mr. Bush, I would just scrap the speech and just leave. Really. I think it would be better for the country if we can start the recovery process as soon as possible.

T-minus three days and counting. . .
I forced myself to watch Shrub’s last self-love-in.
He’s delusional! I actually felt a bit sorry for him (you know, that he has no idea what an enormous tool he is and all) until he was talking about the father of a fallen soldier who enlisted in the medical corps to honor his son– ALL WITH A HUGE SHIT EATING GRIN ON HIS FACE!
I used to think he might not be so glib about his “tough” and “conscience” driven decisions about sending Americans to fight in an unethical and reprehensible war.
Not anymore.
I don’t think he has a soul– even if one near and dear to him were in harm’s way that jackass would still get in front of the camera and wink and smile while talking about dead Americans, dead Iraqis, dead anyone.
T-minus three days and counting. . .
Wow – you’re so independent I can’t imagine this. I have to say, the muppets in the video are much more intelligent than the one leaving office.
If Bush was able to get Dr Krissoff a waiver to serve in Iraq, maybe he should think about following in his footsteps? I bet Obama would grant that waiver and old George would probably last less than 5 minutes in a fire fight. Unfortunately, he’d probably take a few good Americans with him.
I wish he’d get lost between DC and Dallas. Maybe it’s time for Texas to secede. Just long enough to close our borders to Bush.
I’m so glad that we won’t have to watch that smirky smile any more…I think it’s the singular most annoying aspect of watching him speak!!!!!!! He lies, and then he smirks!…..argh! Thank God it’s over!!!!!!!!
OH, and D, I am so much in awe of you speaking your mind while you were in the military…not usually the way to go, but great!!!! My ex always told me I was going to get him kicked out of the Marine Corp! I was very vocal during the Vietnam war……….
He does have a smirky smile/grin. I am not the only one to see this- good to know it is obvious. I am ready for change! Especially this kind of change!
My husband and I watched college basketball on ESPN. We are not crazy about basketball, but it was a better alternative than listening to Dubya speak.
GTFO, dipshit!
Oh, what a crappy speech! I don’t want to hear from him again. Let Texas swallow him up. Or maybe we could trade him for bin laden. I should feel smug after being treated as a pariah, particularly 2001-2005, for my displeasure with the Bush administration, but I was so stunned for the last couple of years as I looked at the mounting damage. They just never stopped gutting this country. I was sitting here in this red state going, this is not America. Then Katrina came, and suddenly, people and the press were saying, wow, you guys…suck. Finally, I wasn’t alone!
I had to suffer through that speech. I wanted to make sure he was leaving. I thought he was going to say, “You may not agree with some tough decisions I have made, but I hope you can agree that I was the decider”.
I can’t wait for the decider, dick “shoot em in the face” cheney and turdblossom to be gone. And bush better shut up with his obama platitudes. Don’t you get it? We don’t listen to you anymore, you can’t ride the popular guy’s coattails. It won’t save you.
Worst president EVER.
We want you GONE.
Thanks D, you just saved me a couple hundred bucks in therapy.
I picture Nixon smiling down and saying
Thank you you Idiot…
it seemed like Bush was trying to justify making the wrong decisions by calling them “tough”… but this is silly. Every president has to make “tough” desicions… the main issue is, were they the RIGHT decisions?
