W. Mark Felt, also known as “Deep Throat” passed away on Thursday after suffering for months from congestive heart failure. He was 95. Deep Throat was the famous source of information to Woodward and Bernstein’s investigation into Watergate.
It was also the name of Linda Lovelace porn that was released around the same time. I could make a few jokes right about now. However, I won’t… which is hard, since I love throwing out double entendres.
I remember seeing the the footage of Mr. Felt, waving from his porch when his admission of being Deep Throat hit the press back in ’05. I recall hearing some people degrade him for ratting Nixon out. I admired the man. To speak up against someone committing corruption and sabotage, especially the President, takes a special type of person. Many of us have seen injustice occur. However, how many of us have voiced that injustice? Many, as I have found, prefer to keep quiet, afraid of retribution. It’s a shame. Seriously.

That’s what I get for trying to type something somewhat coherent around midnight. I meant to type Linda Lovelace, who slept with John C. Holmes, but for some reason flipped the two. Oh, and why I even know that they even slept with each other is beyond me… I retain senseless trivia and forget the worthwhile stuff.
NPR played a great interview (on Fresh Air with Terry Gross) yesterday. It was a 2005 interview where Bob Woodward talked about Felt. It was fascinating, and he named all the current day neo-cons and hawks who think Felt is a traitor! Unbelievable, after what they have done to our country.
Mark Felt will always be an american hero in my eyes. He risked everything he held dear for this country.

Great Post. I have always been fascinated with the whole Watergate thing. I think that Mark Felt should be a national hero. We need more people like him in government today. You would have thought that future Presidents would have learned from Nixon’s mistake but they all remain cocky and above reproach. Hopefully the job will NOT do the same to Barack Obama.
