How could anyone hurt a little guy like this?
This week, a border collie was frozen to the sidewalk in Sheboygan, Wisconson thanks to the neglect of the dog’s owner. The temperatures got down to 6 degrees. Apparently being frozen to the sidewalk wasn’t the dog’s only problem. He was also about 50 pounds overweight and was reduced to crawling instead of walking. The average weight of a border collie is around 30-45 pounds, so adding 50 pounds to that means that this dog is a great canine candidate for one of those weight loss reality shows.
Police were called to aid in freeing the dog, whose name is Jiffy. He’s now recovering at the Sheboygan County Humane Society. Meanwhile, his owner was arrested and released. Now, it’s up to the district attorney to decide if the owner should be charged in the matter. Frankly, I hope that the owner will be.
I really don’t get why people feel the need to abuse animals who look to them for care. Granted, there are days when my cats try my patience, but I wouldn’t hurt them. When I adopted my boys, I took on the responsibility to care for them, not hurt them. All of us who share our homes with four-legged (or finned) friends have that responsibility. If taking care of another life is too much, I have an idea: Don’t Bring the Animal Home!!! Seriously. Let it be someone who will give a damn about the animal. Cases like poor Jiffy are sad. Unfortunately the inhumane treatment of animals is common enough that there are police whose focus is solely on investigating animal abuse. So, if you’re thinking about a pet and aren’t sure that you can handle the feeding, the cleaning, the poop (because there’s always poop), then don’t adopt. If you can handle the care and the love than an animal will bring, then think about visiting your local animal shelter.

People like this always make me mad. I try not to watch Animal Cops on the Animal Planet for just this reason. People can be so cruel, so clueless and so inhumane that it boggles the mind.
Just once I want to see a judge sentence some dipshit animal abuser to the same treatment they gave the animal. But you know they couldn’t get away with it since someone would cry cruel and unusual punishment. Which kinda makes my point.
People are just sick and wrong. Yes, our four legged friends try our patience, just yesterday I caught Lola with my cell phone in her mouth! I just give BOTH of us a time out and then I am ready to play with her again. I won’ t let her outside except for a few minutes if it’s in the 40′s.
I wish they would lock this person (?) up for a long time.
