In President-Elect Obama’s acceptance speech, he mentioned a new puppy to his daughters. Since then, the AKC has gotten into the act with a poll for what breed the Obamas should select to be their first pooch. The poodle received the most votes.
Instead of going for some fru-fru dog, how about this little guy?

No? I actually think he’s so damn ugly that he’s kinda cute.
Well, Chinese Crested was one breed listed on the AKC website. In the end, according to MecuryNews.com, The Obamas will adopt a pooch from a shelter. Due to the economic crisis, the lack of funds in many families, animal shelters are swelling with dogs and cats. Instead of going to a breeder, one can find a purebred pretty easily at a shelter. There are also quite a few rescue groups for various and sundry breeds of dogs that can also be checked out.
If you are thinking about adopting a pet, please consider checking out a local shelter. For more information on animal adoption, check out The Human Society’s website.
UPDATE: The Obamas will have to adopt a hypoallergenic dog due to dog allergies. As you can see from the picture above, the Chinese Crested does not have much in the way of hair. Perfect for allergy sufferers! (Still room for dog rescues.)

Just saw his news conference and he got asked the “dog” question. They have to make a decision based on the fact his daughter has an allergy to dogs…that means a special breed as opposed to a shelter dog, which was their perference. Nice answer!
That is the ugliest damn dog I’ve ever seen in my life btw!!!!!!!!!
I updated this right after you left your comment. Thanks.
Oh, and that dog did win the World’s Ugliest Dog contest.
Ya think!?
That is the ugliest thing I have ever seen! It reminds me of something out of an alien movie! What’s the one with the critters and people coming back to life after a zombie gets cremated? Let me look… “Return of the Living Dead”. That’s the one. Creepy, half-dead looking thing. They’re not all that ugly, you know.
