This evening I found myself socializing with adults instead of staying at home handing out candy. It was not intended, as I have a bag of candy that will now make its way into work with me on Monday…. what I don’t devour over the weekend. Nerds anyone? I have found that the election is very much on the minds of many people. I found myself discussing politics with strangers. The two people, a married couple, who I spoke with the most are McCain supporters. It was fascinating to see how they backed up their argument as to why they both support Sen. McCain and Gov. Palin. The military background of McCain seemed to be the strong point for their support. In addition, the wife, supports Gov. Palin due to her experience with fishing nets and as a hockey mom. They did not state one policy to back up why the like Sen. McCain or Gov. Palin. Instead they went for personality. The couple were very nice people. In fact, we ended up shooting a few games of pool. However, it troubles me to see that people are making their decisions on who should lead the next presidential administration based upon personality.
From what I had read and heard, President Reagan was a nice gentleman and very charismatic. However, he gave us an economic policy that was dubbed, “Reaganomics.” It’s not a friendly term either. I come across nice enough people on a daily basis. However, do I want them to run this country? Hell no!!!
On November 4th, we need to look past the personality, the “heroism”, the relatable factors and focus on ideologies, voting records, and agenda. If you’re voting based upon the likability factor, you really should do a bit more research before casting your vote.
