Obama Infomercial

I recall, many years ago, a man with big ears had purchased some time on the networks in order to review charts.  No presidential candidate has made the bold move of purchasing air time since Ross Perot.  That is, until tonight.  I was a bit curious as to if Mr. Obama could pull off an impression of Perot.  Just think about it, the opening could feature Obama wearing a Perot mask, with a pointer in one hand, and a chart in the other.  Just as we’re about to wonder if this is serious, he would then rip off the mask and say, “Happy Halloween!!”  I think it would hook a few people in.  Sadly, this did not happen.  However, how could one not be mesmerized by the cinematography in itself?

I must admit that I am a cynic.  Yet, I did shed a tear with story of the retired couple who had to take a loan against their home in order to pay for prescriptions.  I do hope that the Obama Infomercial was worth getting  the message out that Sen. Obama WONT INCREASE YOUR TAXES!!!!  Granted, Sen. Obama has said this from day one.  However, I have even run into people who feel that he will increase taxes and be a threat to the middle class.  The threat that we have to our taxes is an old crusty crypt-keeper looking man by the name of Sen. McCain.  If you believe that Sen. McCain is an advocate for the middle class, I have a bridge to sell you.

I also took note that Sen. Obama did not mention Sen. McCain even once during his infomercial.  Instead, he addressed the issues that are of concern to many Americans. He discussed his plans for helping this country ourselves out of the hole that we’ve been tossed in.   Sen. Obama has been great about discussing his differences with Sen. McCain, based upon differences in ideologies and voting records.

However, Sen. McCain, who must not have a leg to stand on, has resorted to name calling, playing on the fears of some Americans, issuing threats, and when all else has failed, he’s whined.  There’s nothing less attractive than seeing some 82 year-old whine as if he were two.  Grow up, dude. Seriously.  Whining won’t get you very far in my book.  I don’t care if you are 2 or 92.  Also, stop trying to tell jokes.  You aren’t funny. Really.  President Bush: Funny without trying.  Sen. McCain: Annoying, not funny.

So, I hope that by having 30 minutes of being able to address Americans without interruption, (also known as Sen. McCain) will have done some good.  It does lead me to wonder about those who voted early for Sen. McCain.  How many of them might have changed their minds, just for it to be too late.

One could argue that would be a reason to not have early voting.  What’s your take?

  1. I didn’t get to see the infomercial because I’m not in the USA right now. I did see 10 minutes of it posted on Barack TV. It was good and I wish I could have seen it all. I believe the early voters were mostly Democrats. If they were Republicans and motivated to vote for McCain early, I don’t think anything would have changed their minds.

If McCain wins, it will not be because he got the most votes.

  2. I loved it. I cried during the whole thing. Something about him, mixed with the hopefulness of his message, and images and stories from real Americans…I just can’t control my happy tears.

I love how he never mentioned his opponents. Not once. His focus is on what matters. The people of America.

How anyone could justifiably call Obama un-patriotic is beyond all reason. McCain supporters are being lied to. At this point, they are so used to being lied to from the GOP, that it’s become truth. They’ll learn their lessons eventually. Just like all those repentant Bush voters.

Thanks for stopping by my blog! Yours is going on my blog roll and bookmarks.

  3. Great infomercial by our new pres!!!!!!! And Katy, I felt 100% as you did! Wasn’t that too cool? I had the kleenex right next to me!
Thanks D for visiting me, and great that we are all doing our part to campaign, whatever it may be…my anxiety level is over the top right now…I can’t wait for this to be over!!!!!!!!!!

  4. My husband and I have been for Barack from day one.
I have wanted him to fight back, you know dirty like the McSame camp, but Barack is a smart man and I truly believe he will one of our greatest President (if the dirty Republicans don’t steal this one too ~ can you believe Elizabeth Dole, mercy I sure thought she was above all this, but just goes to show you how LOW the Republicans go)

  5. While in elementary school, I would get picked on all the time by my classmates. I would tell my mom about it and she would tell me to ignore them. I always wanted to get them back, but she told me that just because someone is low, doesn’t mean that I need to sink down to their level. I suppose Sen. Obama was taught the same thing by his mother. He definitely has class.

  6. Sorry that happened to you…you had a loving and insightful Mom, who gave you an important lesson about dealing with people….and I agree that Barack had the same advice…Thank God!!

  7. Just think what this election would be like if he had parents who did not take interest or participate.
